This women’s workshop, created by Angie Flanagan in honor of her friend Patricia Nivelet, is a gentle and joyful space for women who have always dreamed of dancing...even if you’ve never taken a class before.
No experience is needed. We blend yoga, ballet, jazz, storytelling, and Patricia’s generous spirit into a supportive environment where women can connect and discover the rhythm of their own artistic energy.

An exploration of words through movement
Beginning with improvisation practices rooted in Butoh and physical theater, participants discover how the language of the body can enhance their own creative practice.
No previous dance experience needed. For more information about booking this workshop, send an email to angiemflanagan@gmail.com

I have been teaching and choreographing for more than 20 years across the United States and Europe, and some of my happiest moments are still those spent in the studio, experiencing the joy of movement and sharing that discovery with other dancers.
My modern/contemporary classes draw from Horton and Graham techniques while incorporating elements of African dance, Butoh, and occasionally Flamenco. Through this combination, dancers explore ways of unlocking emotion, musicality, fluidity, weight, and a strong relationship to the ground. Technique becomes a means of discovering greater freedom and expressive possibility within the body.
In my traditional ballet classes, I emphasize turnout as the foundation for understanding how a dancer uses the center, the strength and stability of the standing leg as the source of freedom in the working leg, and the expressive possibilities of the arms and upper body. And, of course, I use stories and imagery as artistic analogies. My teaching combines a deep respect for classical ballet technique with the attention to detail and intention I have gained through my training in Nihon Buyō, encouraging dancers to understand not only how a movement is performed, but what they are communicating through it.
One of my missions as a teacher and choreographer is to remain in exchange with other artists, across disciplines, cultures, and traditions. I continually seek new ways of teaching, creating, and understanding movement so that I can offer dancers of every age and ability the opportunity not only to train physically, but above all to discover their own means of expression and, through movement, share a kernel of truth about the human experience.
I teach in English and French. Please feel free to email me if you are interested in bringing me to your studio! angiemflanagan@gmail.com

This workshop grew out of the enthusiasm of young dancers, ages 8–12, who wanted to participate in the dance intensives they saw older dancers attending. I believe that while it is important for serious young dancers to develop strong technical foundations, through consistency, it is equally important at this age to nurture their imaginations. Imagination is part of how young dancers begin to step fully into the artists they can become.
With this in mind, I created a workshop centered each time around a classical ballet, from The Nutcracker to Swan Lake. The dancers participate in a daily ballet class, beginning pointe and/or pre-pointe if applicable, learn an age-appropriate adaptation of a variation from the featured ballet, and explore the story, characters, music, and world of the production. They also become part of the creative process by designing and making elements of their own costumes, props, and sets.
The workshop culminates in a short presentation for friends and family, giving the dancers the experience of bringing together technique, storytelling, imagination, and performance.
This is one of my favorite workshops to teach because it allows young dancers to experience ballet not simply as a series of steps to master, but as a world they can enter, imagine, create, and ultimately make their own.

One of my greatest passions is bringing stories and dance into classrooms, community centers, retirement communities, and other spaces where people gather. Dance did not begin in theaters under lights. It began when people gathered together—to celebrate, to mourn, to remember, to tell stories, and to share what it means to be human.
I create outreach programs that invite audiences into dance through movement, history, storytelling, and conversation. Presentations can be tailored to the age, interests, and needs of each community, from young students encountering ballet for the first time to adults interested in the ways dance carries history and culture.
One of my specialties is How The Nutcracker Became America’s Most Beloved Ballet, a journey through revolution, immigration, music, and imagination to discover how a strange German story traveled across cultures and generations to become an American holiday tradition.
I also offer programs drawing from my experiences studying traditional Japanese dance and from my artistic research into stories of war, memory, kindness, and reconciliation. These presentations explore how movement and storytelling can help us encounter histories that may be distant from our own while discovering the human experiences that connect us.
Whether I am working with children, adults, or older generations, my goal is the same: to make dance something people can enter rather than simply observe, and to remind audiences that storytelling through movement belongs to all of us.
Some feedback from past presentations:
“We left feeling a little more connected to one another, reminded that we all have the power to build bridges through respect, curiosity, and understanding.”
— Webster Elementary School
“Angie Flanagan brought The Nutcracker to life. I can’t wait to see it live.”
— UW–Green Bay Lifelong Learning Institute
